Color ninja. Patternista. Textiles enthusiast.

For the love of color, pattern and texture.

“I’m in love with repeat pattern. I think it’s all about the rhythm. Is that why I also love electronic dance music? They go so well together – pattern design and disco vibes.”

Darya Karenski is a surface pattern and textile designer based in the Boston area, Massachusetts, USA.

She has a deep color fascination rooted in her classical painting training that she received in her home country of Belarus. She adores all existing aspects of color in life.

“My favorite part of pattern design is creating new colorways. Color sets the mood and can change           the pattern completely. Pure magic.”

Darya has a long-term, profound love for textiles started in her childhood. Spending every summer at her grandmother’s house in southern Russia as a kid, surrounded by vintage textiles, sewing and embroidering, she learned to appreciate handwork and craftsmanship.

“I’m totally tactile, visually and smell-oriented, and

textiles are a perfect realm for all these: I enjoy the smell of moist wool

and steamed cotton, the rubbing of thread against my fingers while winding a warp for weaving, let alone the eye candy of billions of throbbing patterns from all times and corners of the world”.

Darya possesses a wide range of traditional artist and digital skills, from botanical watercolor to vector artwork, drawing, markers, ProCreate, gouache - you name it! Darya's portfolio reflects a unique combination of heirloom, nostalgia and whimsical playfulness.

Her major inspiration sources are the history of global crafts and nature (including her flower garden at her 170+ year-old Massachusetts house). Her favorite textile designer is Josef Frank, with his whimsical hand-painted wonder worlds, as well as maestro William Morris.

Karenski studied Textile Design and Fiber Arts at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She is the winner of 2016 AATC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) student competition for a transforming garment design. She spent 5 years as an in-house Product Development Designer and CAD Artist, developing artwork for women's apparel and a variety of home textiles, paper stationery, dinnerware and other consumer goods.

Since July 2021 she is going to work full time on developing her own brand, Pattern Talent, creating repeating patterns for textiles, paper goods and more. Reach out to Darya via Contact page regarding collaboration and licensing designs.
